Many women struggle with weight gain, especially after becoming mothers. It can be so difficult to lose the baby weight, especially when you are super busy taking care of children and all their needs, plus a million other things. Sometimes it’s difficult to get a minute to think of ourselves, let alone actually DO something. I know all too well. That’s why I decided to write this post on how to lose weight for busy moms!
I wanted to take a moment to let you know that this site uses affiliate links, and this post may include some of those.
You deserve to reach your goal weight. And I know that you can do it!
Here are my top tips for losing weight quickly as a busy mom:
1. Get A Weighted Jump Rope
Jump rope is the easiest and quickest way to get the body you want. You can jump for as little or as long as time allows, and your jump rope is so small that it can fit anywhere. I’ve tried treadmills and bicycles and it’s hard to keep up when you have to go to a specific location and carve out time to actually get some exercise done.
I keep my weighted jump rope right in the living room. It’s easy to hide (or keep it out so you remember more often) and I can do little spurts of 20-100 jump ropes (don’t worry, this really amounts to a couple minutes!).
f you happen to have 10-20 minutes that you are able to dedicate to working out, there are plenty of free workout videos on YouTube. I personally prefer the HIIT Cardio weighted jump rope videos. It can take some time to be able to get through a whole video, but the results you’ll see are SO worth it!
It’s also fun and you can get jump ropes for the kids and all do it together! Nobody will know that you have a weighted jump rope but you, and you’ll be sculpting a brand new bod while keeping the kids entertained!
Here’s just a few reasons why a weighted jump rope is the best way to lose weight for busy moms:
- burns calories quickly and efficiently
- easy workout to maintain
- easy to do with kids
- easy to do in short bursts whenever you get the time
- doesn’t take up much space
- inexpensive
- tones body while burning calories
- improves circulation
- improves coordination
- helps with mental health (yay!)
- discreet enough to do at the park with your kids without feeling weird
- it is lots of FUN!
What are the best weighted jump ropes for moms?
I love this weighted jump rope because it is comfy, size-adjustable, and comes with a lifetime warranty. I like the weight of it, and it was easy to adjust for my height (at 5’4″, I’m pretty short).
If you’re more into fancy jump rope (that also happens to cost less at the time I’m writing this) that can track your progress for you, check out this jump-rope. It is ergonomically sound and also has a cordless feature that would work better for moms with kids who are always in the way and might get hurt by the cord.
2. Change Your Diet
Instead of going on a diet, change your entire family’s lifestyle! This will make it easier to eat foods that are conducive to weight loss without having to make “special meals” that take up too much of your time.
There are several diet plans that can help you to reach your weight loss goals quickly.
Here are the best weight loss diets for busy moms:
- Whole 30
- Paleo
- Keto
- Smoothie
- Soup
These diets top the list because they are rather easy to implement and can be incorporated for the entire family.
With Whole 30 and Paleo, the main goal is to get rid of processed foods, sugars, and grains. You can eat pretty much unlimited amounts of meat, eggs, fish, vegetables and some sweet potatoes. With these lifestyle choices, it is easy to add more carbs to the family’s diet if needed, without having to make a completely different meal for yourself. The Whole30 Program is designed to last for 30 days, although some choose to follow it for life. Paleo is more of a lifestyle intended for life, it is just awesome that it also helps you to reach an ideal weight!
The keto diet is pretty similar, except that you’ll be counting carbs. Many foods that are keto friendly are perfectly fine for children, such as meats, many vegetables, some fruits, eggs, fish, cheese, milk, etc. Some people put their children on the keto diet, but it would be fine to add potatoes or other carb-sides for your child.
The smoothie diet is quite restrictive, but it works really well and if you have a good machine it will be super easy to make smoothies while you’re fixing the family’s meals. Smoothies take a minute or two to blend up, and have very little prep or clean-up time. You drink to satiety so you do not ever have to feel like you are starving. This is a way to lose weight super fast, while flooding your body with valuable nutrients that will promote healthy skin, nails and hair texture as well as growth.
The soup diet is easy and nice because you can make a huge pot of soup and freeze/refrigerate portions to quickly re-heat and enjoy. You can put almost anything you want into the soups, (meat, veggies, beans) and just eat that 3-4x/day. You will want to avoid bread, noodles, rice and other starchy/carby foods. It’s super easy to implement the soup diet as a busy mom, but if you’re only doing one or two types of soup it will be easy to get bored.
